Srinagar: With the commissioning of 250M\ MW Alesteng Grid station this week, much of power woes would end in Kashmir.
The Alesteng grid station which was sanctioned by Congress led UPA government at the center in 2006. The project completion was delayed for the years and it gained pace only after former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti set 2018 deadline for completion of the project.
Now with the commissioning of the Alesteng Grid station constructed at a cost of Rs 109 crore, power import capacity to Kashmir could enhance by 250-MW which officials say is enough to provide round the clock power supply at least in Srinagar city and other industrial areas.
Taking to KNS, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baser Ahmed Khan confirmed the completion of project and said that trail run of the grid station was done two days before.
A top PDD official told KNS that infrastructure for transmission line comprising of 158 towers was also completed.
Notably, during the peak period, the valley has demand of 1900 MW. But due lack of transmission capacity, valley could only import 1250 MW. Now with the Alesteng Grid being commissioned this week, the capacity would go up to import of 1500 MW.
A top PDD official said that with its commissioning, a new power schedule would be issued.
“It would certainly be a less power curtailment schedule,” he said. (KNS)
