Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir administration has decided to celebrate ‘Grand Independence Day’ in Jammu and Kashmir by hoisting trii colour all government offices including 23000 government schools in the Union Territory.
Similarly, teachers have also been told to attend August 15 celebrations in their respective schools.
The hoisting of the national flag has been made mandatory for all government institutions.
“For last over a week, we are making all preparations for August 15 celebrations in our school. We also have been told to be present on August 15 celebrations,” a teacher of a government school told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Agency (KINS).
The government has issued a circular which says, “Independence Day will be celebrated in all schools. Directions should be conveyed to all the CEOs, Principals/headmasters to hoist national flag at all schools. Videos and photos of the function will be uploaded on google drive.”
Similarly, Kashmir University has also issued a circular, which says, “A flag hoisting ceremony will be held in the University of Kashmir on Sunday, the 15th of August 2021 at 10:15 am. All employee of the varsity are invited to the ceremony.”
This is for the first time when Independence Day celebrations will be held and tricolour will be unfurled in all government buildings across J&K. “Government wants to celebrate grand Independence Day by hoisting tricolour on all offices across Jammu and Kashmir. All preparations have been made in this regard,” a senior official said.
Earlier, government authorities would take the salute and hoist the national flag at selected venues like at district headquarters.
Similarly, the Panchayat members will unfurl the tricolour in their respective constituencies.
For the last over a week, various schools have been organizing cleanliness drives and plantation drives,
A tricolour will be unfurled at a height of 100-feet on Srinagar’s Hari Parbhat hill.
The size of the flag will be 24 feet by 36 feet. Besides, flags will be erected across the city, especially the boulevard around the Dal Lake.
Ahead of Independence Day, Srinagar’s Clock Tower (Ganta Ghar) in Lal Chowk has been illuminated in the colours of the tricolour.
Meanwhile security has been tightened across Jammu and Kashmir.
The main I-Day function to be held at Shar-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar will be presided over by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
