Narcotics worth 50 crore rupees recovered in Kupwara: Police

Police in Kupwara claimed to have busted a narco-module and making a recovery of eight kilograms of narcotics worth an estimated market value of fifty crores, besides arresting a militant associate here on Sunday.

According to a statement issued to GNS the district police said to have on receipt of specific information busted a narco-module and arresting an associate identified as one Mudasir Ahmad Lone a resident of Karen Bala.

“Incriminating material narcotic substance Heroin 08 kgs (worth 50 Cr. Market value) were recovered from possession of the apprehended accused”, it said.

The other absconding persons involved (in the module) have been identified and efforts are on to arrest them, it says.

“The Module was in close connection with ‘Pakistan-based handlers and were involved in drug trade and assisting financially to active militants of the Valley’. The recoveries also exposed the inter-connection between drug dealers and militants”, the statement maintains.

“The module was working for militants to strengthen their activities in the valley and were misguiding and motivating the local youth of the Valley to join militant ranks”, it maintains.

A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kralpora and investigations taken up”, the statement says.

Kupwara Police once again appeals the people of the District to come forward with the information regarding drug peddlers, smugglers so that the curative steps can be taken against them, it concludes. (GNS)
