Amarnath flash floods: Body of missing pilgrim retrieved
The body of a missing pilgrim was retrieved by a rescue team away from the holy Amarnath Cave on Thursday.
The young pilgrim from Delhi had gone missing after a cloud burst hit near the holy cave on 8 July this month leaving at least 16 pilgrims dead and scores missing. With the recovery of this body, the toll has touched 17.
Sources said that the administration handed over the body of the pilgrim to locals in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district for cremation.
Former Legislator Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar, who participated in the cremation told a local news agency, Kashmir News Trust (KNT), that the victim was cremated in presence of local Muslims and Pandits. “His ashes will be taken to Haridwar after two days. The victims father and some relatives were also present on the occasion,” Sheikh Ishfaq said and identified the victim as Deepak Tangray son of Dharam Veer, a resident of Rani Garden East Delhi.
The victim was cremated at Shamshan Bhoomi in Lar Ganderbal.
Meanwhile, another dead body of a pilgrim was found at Pisutop Zajibal. The victim has been identified as septuagenarian Satveer Singh son of Ratti Ram of Machhgar Haryana.
An official said that his body has been shifted to Chandanwari for cremation. (KNT)
