Imran Khan arrest: Pakistan police fire tear gas into PTI chief’s Lahore house

Islamabad police have arrived at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s residence in Lahore to arrest him. Dawn reported that armoured vehicles are stationed outside Khan’s residence in Lahore’s Zaman Park. Khan has put out a video message urging his supporters to continue the fight against the government even if he is “sent to jail or killed”.

The former prime minister’s supporters are also gathered outside his residence. There are reports of clashes, with police using water cannons to disperse PTI workers pelting stones at them.

Islamabad Deputy Inspector General (DIG) (Operations) Shahzad Bukhari was quoted as saying by Dawn that there are outstanding warrants for Imran Khan’s arrest. Yesterday, an Islamabad district and sessions court again issued arrest warrants after he skipped hearings in the Toshakhana case – a landmark decision in which the Pakistan’s election panel disqualified him from holding public office for 5 years.
