JeM OGW deported from Qatar, held at Delhi airport
The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday arrested an overground worker of proscribed outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed at the Delhi airport when he landed there after deportation from Qatar, officials said.
Munib Sofi, hailing from Kanelwan area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir, was allegedly working with a Pakistani militant Waleed Bhai, who was killed in an encounter in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district last year.
“The Kulgam police arrested wanted JeM overground worker Munib Sofi from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the national capital,” police said.
A spokesman said that the role of the said OGW surfaced in FIR number 58/2020 under sections 13, 18, 19, 38, 39 ULA(P) Act.
“An accused arrested in the said case disclosed that he along with other OGWs were collecting money for JeM from various districts in Kashmir and were handing over the collected amount to Muneeb Ahmad Sofi who was in Qatar and was in contact with active militant of JeM Waleed Bhai R/O Pakistan for purchase of arms and ammunition from Pakistan,” read the statement.
“A look out notice was published against Muneeb and a non-bailable warrant u/s 25 Police Act was obtained from the concerned court.”
“Consequent to deportation of the accused from Qatar to India, he was apprehended at IGI Airport and is being brought to Kulgam for further questioning and investigation.”
