MeT predicts mainly dry weather in J&K

The weatherman has forecast mainly dry weather in the next 24 hours while most parts recorded a decrease in minimum temperature in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

A meteorological department official said that no major weather activity was expected over the entire J-K till 3 September although there is a possibility of light rain over isolated places.

In the last 24 hours till 8:30 am today, the official told a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS), that Srinagar received traces of rain, Qazigund 0.4mm, Pahalgam 17.6mm, Kupwara 1.3mm, Gulmarg 3.0mm, Banihal and Batote had 0.5mm each and Katra 0.7mm.

Regarding minimum temperature, the official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 16.2°C against 16.4°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.5°C above normal for the summer capital during this time of the year, he said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 14.8°C against 15.4°C on the previous night. However, the temperature was 1.1°C above normal there, he said.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 11.3°C against 11.5°C on the previous night and it was 0.3°C above normal for the south Kashmir resort.

Kokernag recorded a low of 13.5°C against 14.6°C the previous night and it was 0.6°C below normal for the place, he said.

World famous Gulmarg resort recorded a low of 9.0°C same as on the previous night. It was 1.7°C below normal for the north Kashmir place, he said.

Kupwara town saw a low of 17.1°C against 16.7°C on the previous night and it is 3.0°C above normal for the place during this time of the season, the official said.

Jammu recorded a low of 24.9°C against 25.3°C on the previous night. It was 0.6°C above normal for J-K’s winter capital, he said. Banihal recorded a low of 16.0°C, Batote 18.1°C, Katra 23.4°C and Bhadarwah 17.5°C. (GNS)
