A middle-aged man has been arrested for raping a minor girl in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district, police said on Thursday.
They said that the arrested person, identified as Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh – who is a resident of Kupwara, but currently staying in Srinagar – raped a 15 year old girl who is a relative of the accused.
Following the incident, police registered a case under relevant sections of POCSO and arrested the accused person.
“One Mohd Iqbal Sheikh (46 years) S/o Ghulam Qadir Sheikh R/o Kanthpora, Sogam Kupwara presently staying in Pamposh Colony, Srinagar arrested for raping a minor 15 year old girl. The accused is a relative of a child. FIR no 92/2023 U/S 352,376,506 IPC & 3/4 POCSO act in PS Safakadal,” said Srinagar Police in a tweet. (CNS)
