Police bust extortion racket in Kulgam, arrest five robbers with fake guns, pistols: Officials

Police on Friday claimed to have busted an extortion racket by arresting five robbers, who according to police were impersonating militants in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

In a handout to a local news agency, Global News Service (GNS), the police said that Kulgam Police received multiple complaints from the residents of Katrasoo, Matibugh and Tarigam, etc., that some persons entered their houses proclaiming as militants, threatened them with weapons and asked for money and other valuable items and fled away from the spot.

The police spokesman further stated that taking “cognizance of the matter, a case with FIR No 92/2022 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Yaripora”.

During the course of the investigation, a special team led by SHO Yaripora was constituted.

Searches were conducted and multiple Nakas were established to arrest the accused.

Today after generating specific information regarding the module, a special Naka at Yaripora was established and five accused namely “Nazir Mushtaq Malik son of Mushtaq Ahmed Malik resident of Pinjoora Shopian, Khalid Hussain Deedad son of Mushtaq Deedad resident of Sangarwani Pulwama, Rizwan Ahmad Deedad S/O Mohd Azan resident of Sangarwani Pulwama, Karman Ahmad Deedad son of Mohd Ashraf Deedad resident of Draklarn Abhama Pulwama and Abrar Ahmad Teadwa son of Mohd Yousuf Teadwa resident of Sangerwani Pulwama were arrested and from their possession 02 Toy Guns, 01 Toy Pistol, 02 Cutters, 05 Mobile phones and 05 Masks were recovered, also vehicle used in commission of crime has been seized”.

“Further investigation into the matter is in progress,” he said.

The general public is requested not to fall into any such trap and to inform the concerned Police Station about any such incident immediately, reads the statement. (GNS)
