Shopian 44RR organised mega chess championship in Arhama Shopian
First of its kind in Shopian 44RR organised a mega chess championship in old fruit mandi Arhama Shopian.
The event was inaugurated by GOC Victor Force Major General Rashem Bali along with Commander 12 Sector RR Brigadier NS Grewal & Co 44 RR Colonel AK Singh and other senior officials, statement reads.
A total of 600 participants from 55 schools of twin districts of South Kashmir Shopian and Pulwama participated in the event.
The teams were distributed into three age groups i.e, U14, U17 and U19. Apart from the main event children from BalAshram Pinjoura Shopian were provided with stationary/indoor-outdoor games etc.
The main attraction for school children was first time career counseling regarding different competitive exams of Indian army for officer rank.
Medical check-up and Covid awareness programs were also conducted for participants by Indian army doctors.
A cultural programme was performed by SS Production Kulgam and a skit was performed by Cambridge School children Keegan which was hailed by the participants.
At the end of the event prize distribution was conducted for the winners as well as participants of the championship.
People from all walks of life appreciated the efforts taken by Indian army’s 44 RR Unit to engage the children in different activities.And hope to continue such activities in the future too.The parents and teachers of the children termed the participation as “real face of Shopian”.
