Stranded Kashmiris protest in Jammu, appeals for early return to Valley

Jammu: Several Kashmiris stranded in Jammu on Monday appealed authorities to ensure their return to Valley as their cash and kind has got finished in wake of continuous lockdown.


Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Ghulam Rasool Bhat of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district expressed disappointment over apathetic approach of authorities who failed to evacuate hundreds of Kashmir’s stranded in winter capital Jammu since nationwide lockdown was enforced.


Bhat, who visited Jammu to treat her ailing wife, said my cash and kind has got finished from last 40 days. He said I along with my ailing wife is surviving in a complicated atmosphere as we have not a single penny saved for medication.


Another stranded Kashmiri said we came to Jammu before months for labor but after Covid-19 lockdown restriction were imposed; I along with other seven Kashmiris have been confined into a single room. He said stranded Kashmiris are sure that Covid-19 will not kill us but unconcerned approach of the administration will push us give up our lives.


A student from Jammu region questioned the silence of authorities over evacuation of Jammu residents from Kashmir Valley. “If government is concerned about evacuation of Kashmiri students who were stranded outside UT, why they have kept deep silence over return of Jammu residents?”


They appealed Lieutenant Governor led administration to look into the issue and take concrete steps on compassionate grounds for evacuation of stranded people to their respective homes. (KNS)
