Suspended J&K Cop Davinder Singh granted bail

Suspended Jammu and Kashmir police officer Davinder Singh has been granted bail after Delhi Police failed to file a charge sheet in time,  Press Trust of India, quoting his lawyer reported.

Earlier this year, Mr. Singh was arrested while ferrying two Hizbul Mujahideen militants in a vehicle on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway. He was subsequently suspended from the service.

On Wednesday, Mr. Singh and another accused in the case, Irfan Shafi Mir, moved the applications seeking statutory bail, claiming that the charge sheet was not filed within requisite 90 days period, as prescribed under law.

In January, Mr. Singh was suspended from the police services and was arrested in a case alleging that he was “planning of terror attacks in Delhi and other parts of the country”. Later, the Special Cell had brought him to Delhi from Hira Nagar Jail in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the police, he used to chat with other co-accused and militants of Hizbul Mujahideen through various internet platforms.
